There seems to be some definite animal action around at the minute, Queen bloggers with peacock plumes and cat masks, we still seem to be craving animal print.. um everything, even some of the seasons' most coveted boots like Acne's Atacoma and Edelmans Zoe are more reminiscent of hooves

But one of my favourite animal inspired looks for this season has to be the huge bunny ears!
Unwearable?
Well you might be right, i'm a sucker for some statement headgear but i thought this might be a step to far ........until i seen this pic of Eva on Sartorialist

Unlike the big clip-on satin bows of last year, which i had a personal dilema with, in i quite liked them, i bought some and when i put any of them on and stared into the mirror i just could not muster the will to walk out the door in them as i felt like i had a vague likeness to Baby Jane Hudson in it, not being the right side of a quarter century myself.

Hmmmm....but Eva looks good in these, oh i definitely think i could hold my own with bunny ears, they're just kind of out there, aren't they?

The dotcom vintage webstore i've been trying to get off the ground has basically churned to a halt at present. Sorry i know i promised! So being ever impatient for abit of action, i've put some items up on Etsy tonight and i'll be adding more tomorrow, for a change i've not modelled them (possibly through shear laziness...and also the thought of hours wrestling my head through things and getting stuck and ending up in a generally foul mood with myself) but i may brave it and add more pics of the items already listed also as my antiquated photography lamp is making everything look a shade of grey, abit like the current weather situation. Here's two of my favourite items just listed.

I confess that normally i don't get excited by jewellery unless it's chunky, basically the chunkier the better. There are some exceptions to the rule but they are usually antique or vintage pieces that are unique in some way.
However Servane Gaxotte has changed all that with her menagerie of pigs, cats, and mice wearing tutu's and what looks suspiciously like Doc Marten boots.

My heart belongs to the mouse as she reminds of the 'fixers' in Bagpuss. There's no better excuse to covet a piece of jewellery than it makes you smile.

First outing of my fancy pants, you can't really see in photos but they have cherubs blowing trumpets on them ....fabulous, reminds me of trashy 90s Versace pre-Donatella.

I used the black feather pads to make some headpieces, which unfortunately isn't very well shown in pics, but no doubt i might be sporting on a daily occurance which will add much to the confusion of some people in the bus queue. A little old lady asked if i was going to a wedding ....ah bless!
Although previously i had imagined them sewn onto the shoulders of dresses like wings, but my idea has been reduced to inferiority since Angie of Norweigan Wood released this latest masterpiece . I'm imagining it over everything and doing a pretty good job of convincing myself that on a £ per wear basis it's a bargain.

Boudoir Queen use handmade and vintage textiles to produce unique individual accessories such as lace cuffs, garters and turbans. Their creations are favoured by the likes of Courtney Love, The Veronicas and Vanessa Pardis.
Whilst i covet all this collection for my dressing up box,i feel it's the headpieces that make the biggest impact and have me swooning and wishing my bank balance was a little bit healthier.

I have a keen interest in design particularly of the art deco period, so when in dublin last week my friend and i visited the Eileen Gray exhibition at Decorative Arts & History site at Collins Barracks.

"Neglected for most of her career, EILEEN GRAY (1878-1976) is now regarded as one of the most important furniture designers and architects of the early 20th century and the most influential woman in those fields. Her work inspired both modernism and Art Deco.

In the August 1917 issue of British Vogue magazine a writer described the work of Miss Gray, a lacquer artist who had fled her home in Paris to seek refuge in London during World War I. “Influenced by the modernists is Miss Gray’s art, so they say,” it began. “But is it not rather that she stands alone, unique, the champion of a singularly free method of expression.”"

Eileen was irish-born and self-taught and being a woman without a powerful male mentor she did not benefit from their connections and influence like other female designers of the time such as Le Corbusier, Charlotte Perriand and Mies Van Der Rohe.Her gender and her privileged background left her isolated. Whilst she did receive some recognition for her work while she was alive it was not on the scale to which she is regarded today.
Grey focussed on strong geometric patterns and a clean lacquered effect which is widely regarded as being ahead of it's time.

Sitting on our Eileen Gray chairs in the exhibition watching a documentary of a vibrant and elegant woman sitting in her parisian apartment, smoking in dark glasses, it was evident that Miss Gray was quite a colourful character indeed. Even in her eighties she possessed an unsurpassable enthusiasm for her work which is still evident in most modern design today.

I can't fathom why these aren't everywhere. Firstly with their hidden platform they are reminiscent of the iconic YSL Tribs (which one can only dream about owning) and secondly they've survived two drunken nights out without even a mark or a late-night trip to casualty, despite their vertiginous 5.5 inch height. In short they high kick all of my other footwear into the oblivion officially known as 'the back of the messiest wardrobe in the UK'
Oh and did i mention they were furry?

So i just got round to doing an actual outfit post...Hurrah! This is one of my favourite vintage dresses, i got it from the lovely Ramona West , it used to be knee length so i shortened it and took it in. Unfortunately i done these alterations very late at night and under the influence of a couple of glasses of the devil's brew so i totally misjudged my measurements (not for the first time) and it ended up way too short so now requires tube skirts to be worn underneath to protect my modesty.
I seem to be looking very cutesy at present, i think the sun has frazzled my brain

It's funny how your perceptions of people, places change as you get older. When i was a kid i hated all the provencial seaside towns we were dragged around in the summer months. But now i'm older and have done my fair share of travelling, i can actually appreciate the kitschness so close to home and a good old-fashioned bag of fish and chips

I am lusting after Alexandra Groover's fluid futuristic designs which still tip their hat at bygone decades, and in some cases centuries. Check out her Edwardian pantaloons, and beautiful assymetric thirties style gown. But my hands down fave is this slashed 'ephyrae dress' with cute ruffle collar....i will however have to wait patiently, as have currently taken up permanent residence in the doghouse on instruction of the long-suffering hubby ..... flamin' credit crunch isn't it over yet?!

Obsessed with these crinkly Office brown lace-ups , probably because they are so similar to a pair my had grandad wore and they remind me of when my little brother used to crawl over when granda was sitting in the armchair watching Dad's Army and mischievously tie the poor man's laces together.

I recently stumbled upon Glamcanyon and immediately it was love at first sight! It's already firmly nestled itself right beside Facehunter as my two favourite style blogs.

This wonderful London street style and party blog by the rather gorgeous Katja is bursting it's vintage seams with rockabilly, pin-up, punk, avant-garde and downright bizarre fashion inspiration and thats just the girls. There's also more gorgeous exotic man-candy and rather dashing fops and dandies than you can shake a silver-topped cane at.
